Our Story
How it began...
In January of 2021, both Tyler and Kelsie attended the Regular Basic Course provided by CAL FIRE in hopes of becoming Peace Officers for the department. After settling into the academy routine, the two started enjoying weekends together in April, the first being in downtown Sacramento pictured left. Most weekends until the end were spent exploring areas near where the academy took place, and simultaneously studying for upcoming tests. On graduation day, we decided that we enjoyed each others company enough to pursue a relationship beyond the academy. We both finished our field training and began our new jobs as Peace Officers, Kelsie in Sonoma-Lake-Napa, and Tyler in San Mateo-Santa Cruz. Though there wasn't much off time during fire season, when there was free time, it was spent together usually traveling. Eventually we started living together in Cobb, CA.
Where we went from there...
After spending some time together, we've found lots of common interests, mostly centering around outdoor activities. We both enjoy camping, hiking, paddleboarding, and lots of other water activities. In March of 2022, we ventured to Kauai, HI and spent lots of time on the water and exploring the island. In July of 2022, we made it Florida, and Tyler being a long time certified diver, was able to coordinate getting Kelsie certified as well. We both enjoy scuba diving and have since invested in the equipment to do so abroad. In August we took a road trip through the east side of Oregon. This trip started by camping at an old fire lookout and the views were AMAZING. As we travelled north, we fished, hiked, found more fire lookouts, exploring caves made by old lava flows, and enjoyed floating the river in Bend. We visited Mt. Hood and camped outside of Lost Lake resort with the most amazing view of Mt. Hood. One of the last gems that we found on a whim was a fish hatchery on the Hood River. We explored the fish hatchery and toured the dam just east of the hatchery.
The day he asked...
In April of 2023, we took our first trip together out of the US to Cancun, Mexico! The trip was filled with lots of adventures and lots of scuba diving. On April 18, 2023, we finished the last of our diving and made it to dinner early. Because we made it to dinner early, we were able to head out and enjoy the sunset on the dock at the resort. On the way, Tyler was able to acquire a bottle of champagne from an outdoor bar that was shutting down. We walked out to the end of the dock and sat down, taking in the views. Tyler pulled out two stickers, one with the name "SCOTT" and one with the name "HICKEY". These are commonly used to mark equipment for work. The "SCOTT" one was in black blocky letters and the "HICKEY" one was in a reflective more traditional font. Tyler asked Kelsie which she liked more. Obviously, Kelsie chose the "HICKEY" one, and Tyler then said, "Well you can have it, but with that comes this (as he pulls the ring out of his pocket). Kelsie immediately started crying and of course said yes. We enjoyed the rest of our trip waiting until returning state side to share the news.
Our hopes for the future...
As our lives merge, we have a lot of shared hopes for the future. We were recently blessed with purchasing a home in the foothills. It sits on seven acres in Amador county, complete with beautiful views of the Mokelumne River drainage, south highway 49 corridor and Jackson proper. We hope to add a shop in the near future and begin a garden and small orchard. We plan on continuing to travel all over the world, experiencing lots of different cultures and seeing all of the different beauties this world has to offer. And for those who are going to ask about kids, maybe one day.
